100% of Pretty Purposeful's profits and donations went to helping change women's lives through obstetric fistula repair surgeries. Watch the slides below to learn more about the problem.
Our purpose was to help girls and young women in Africa who suffer from the childbirth injury of obstetric fistula to receive the surgery and education they need to lead meaningful lives again.
All profits from Pretty Purposeful went toward providing education and medical care for girls and young women who suffer from obstetric fistula, the most widespread and painful of all childbirth injuries. Obstetric fistula primarily affects malnourished, small girls and young women who marry at a young age in poor African and Asian countries. When women develop fistula injuries they are likely to be rejected by their husbands and families and must live alone, enduring constant pain and leakage, with no sense of purpose in their lives. Up to 100,000 new cases develop each year.
But there is hope for these girls and young women. Numerous hospitals have been set up in Africa and Asia to help. Unfortunately, only about 15,000 cases can be treated each year due to lack of funds.
Although Pretty Purposeful is no longer active, we still hope to see fistula one day eradicated by other obstetric fistula organizations.
